School readiness at Learn Hillingdon (course for parents/ carers)
Mon 17 Jun 2024Do you have a young child going to 'big' school for the first time in September?
So, what is school readiness? Well, we see it as a measure of how prepared a child is to succeed in school, cognitively, socially and emotionally. This allows teachers to focus on developing skills and stops young children playing 'catch up,' so they can develop their love for school and parents/ carers can be confident that their child is coping well with the transition. Sadly, the last statistical data shows that in Hillingdon 1 in 2 children are 'school ready' compared to Lewisham where about 3 in 4 children are school ready. And the pandemic will not have improved this situation.
So, Learn Hillingdon are offering all parents/ carers of young children, who are about to go to school for the first time a free course:
CHO1057 - School Readiness (online course)
Starts 25th June 2024 7pm to 9pm - 4 weeks
All parents/ carers need to do is enrol online using the link Course List Course List | ontrack: Learner Hub (tribal-ebs.com) just click on the blue ENROL button.
Once enrolled, parents/ carers will be sent, via email, all the information they need to attend including the link to the online class.

Soccer Aid 2024
Fri 07 Jun 2024Children at Minet have been celebrating Soccer Aid this week by doing the daily challenges in the playground and dressing up in their Sports Clothing to raise money for UNICEF. Their goal celebrations were very creative, and the children were very competitive across the week. Thank you to all parents and carers for making a big effort!

It's GOLD! Minet Infants is now a GOLD Rights Respecting school
Sun 02 Jun 2024Minet Infant and Nursery School has achieved Rights Respecting GOLD accreditation and is now one of only two schools in Hillingdon to have achieved this. It is a fantastic acknowledgement of everyone's hard work to promote the rights of children at Minet everyday. A particular thank you should go to Mrs Vallijee who leads the school's rights respecting work and the children who act as Rights Respecting Ambassadors - without them this would not have been possible.

KS1 Athlete in School Day
Fri 24 May 2024Today, we had a special visitor delivering some workshops. Chad Miller, an Olympian who has represented Great Britain. The children loved meeting him and practicing the drills for sprinting. Chad done a warm up, some simple running exercises and finished with a relay race. The children were trying to be just as fast as him. Children from Minet would like to wish Chad Miller good luck in his try outs for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Year 2 Squash Taster Sessions
Fri 24 May 2024Year 2 enjoyed some squash taster sessions today. They learnt how to balance the ball, practiced hitting the ball in the air and on the ground and played against each other. Thank you Trevor from Hillingdon squash team for a fun, engaging session.

Attendance Winners
Fri 24 May 2024Well done to all the bronze certificate winners who achieved 100% attendance this half term. Their names were entered into the Attendance Raffle and winners were chosen from each year group.
Let's see who will get silver certificates next half term for 100% attendance for the Summer term and gold certificates for 100% attendance for the WHOLE year!

GRO Health
Mon 20 May 2024GLL/ Better Health has partnered with NHS Northwest London to promote a health and wellbeing app to families called GRO HEALTH.
With a vision and ambition of addressing childhood obesity in NW London and combating long-term health issues or conditions stemming from an inactive or unhealthy lifestyle, we want to start by programming healthy behaviours from childhood and work with families to achieve a healthy future for generations to come.
Find out more on GRO HEALTH at: https://www.grohealth.com/. Through NHS NW London the app is available FREE to local families for 12 months from sign up. Eligibility for FREE registration is determined by at least one adult over 18 years old and at least one child between 5-18 years old living in the same household.
Registered users will have access to:
- Thousands of healthy recipes and meal plans; starting from £1.50 a meal and tailored specifically to dietary requirements and preferences.
- Workout videos; suitable for the whole family, from easy seated exercises through to more active
- Mindfulness activities
- Sleep advice and much more...

International Day
Mon 20 May 2024All children and staff at Minet Infant and Nursery School took part in International Day on the 14th of May. The day was filled with learning about facts, customs and dances of different countries and continents. Thank you to parents/ carers that came into school to perform and share their culture with the children.
Children enjoyed taking part in all the different activities planned on the day and here are some of their comments: -
"We get to learn about different cultures. I learnt that India is in the continent of Asia which is the biggest continent.”
“I liked using the chopsticks. It was hard but lots of fun.”
“We tasted Greek yoghurt, it’s thicker than normal yoghurt because all the water is squeezed out.”
“I liked looking at everyone’s clothes in the fashion show.”
“I liked learning the games from Indonesia and l learnt that the biggest temple is 2000 years old.”
"International Day is all about the world and other countries. Austria is an amazing country because of the dances. I come from Afghanistan. I have been there."
