  • National Fieldwork Visit for Our Year 1 Pupils

    Thu 29 Jun 2023

The children in Year 1 walked to Minet Country Park to investigate park usage. We all went at different times of the day and found that the park is the busiest between 11 and 12pm. We found that people like the open space and is good for dog walkers (who still visit, no matter what the weather!) People think that there are not enough bins and feel that the grass is not cut regularly. Park users also want to see water in the lake!

It was a lovely visit and children even got to have a go using the play equipment!

  • Beep Beep Day

    Fri 23 Jun 2023

On Thursday 22nd June 2023, all of our Key Stage 1 children took part in 'Beep Beep Day.' The day was kindly put on by Higgins construction who are completing the Avondale Drive estate redevelopment and focused on developing children's road safety awareness particularly around construction traffic. The children had a workshop and then had the opportunity to sit inside the cab of a Higgins truck. It was a very informative and enjoyable day for the children. Thank you very much to Higgins for organising for us!

  • John McDonnell MP visits Minet Infants

    Fri 16 Jun 2023

For World Environment Day, after reading Greta and the Giants and being inspired by her message 'No one is too small to make a difference,' the Year 2 children wrote to Rt Hon Mr John McDonnell MP (the MP for Hayes and Harlington). They wrote persuasive letters expressing their worries about Climate Change. Imagine how honoured we were to have Mr McDonnell respond by saying he would like to visit the school and listen to some of the letters the children had written!

  • World Environment Day

    Wed 14 Jun 2023

For our RRSA themed day we learnt about World Environment Day and Article 29 of the UNCRC which is: Your education should help you protect the environment and respect other people. We started the day with a KS1 assembly and Reception had very special visitors where they learnt all about bees! Throughout the day children learnt about how special Mother Earth is and the various actions we can take to protect it such as not polluting the seas and oceans and looking after animals and the habitats they live in. Children also learnt about the causes of air pollution and how to reduce it, climate change, deforestation and found out about Greta Thunberg and how she is changing the viewpoints of others. The children are becoming Global Citizens and learning how their actions play a wider part in the world.

  • Family Friday: Writing (Year 1)

    Mon 12 Jun 2023

We welcomed our Year 1 families in to see how we teach writing to the children.

Before the children write, they engage in a lot of rehearsing and retelling of their carefully chosen book. This term, Year 1 will be rewriting 'Beegu', a story about an alien that lands on our planet and yearns to return home.

Thank you to the parents/carers who attended and we look forward to inviting other year groups over the coming weeks.
