Life Bus visit
Mon 10 Feb 2025Coram Life Education visited Minet Infant and Nursery School last week and the children participated in a Life Bus workshop. During the session, they explored the five key aspects of SCARF: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, and Friendship. The children were introduced to Harold the giraffe, who helped them understand the concept of ‘Resilience’. We also reflected on one of our school values, ‘Rizzo Resilience’, which allowed the children to connect the idea of perseverance and never giving up to their own personal experiences.

Reception Dinosaur Workshop
Sun 02 Feb 2025The Reception children had a wonderful time at the dinosaur workshop today! Johnathan, the palaeontologist reinforced the concept of how dinosaurs lived on earth millions of years ago. The children had the opportunity to explore the dinosaur fossils, they worked hard to match each fossil to the correct dinosaur skeleton. Their enthusiasm was evident as they were keen to ask questions and display their growing knowledge about dinosaurs. The highlight of the workshop was when Johnathan introduced the children to Sophie, the triceratops. Sophie interacted with the children by moving her head and opening her mouth, just like a real dinosaur! The children were absolutely amazed by this experience. Many of them were eager to stroke Sophie and have their photograph taken next to her.

Year 2 Taekwondo Taster Session
Thu 30 Jan 2025This week, Year 2 had the incredible opportunity to take part in a Taekwondo taster session, and they absolutely loved every moment of it! The session was led by an experienced instructor who introduced the children to the fundamental skills of Taekwondo, including basic stances, controlled kicks, and simple blocking techniques. They practiced balancing on one foot while performing front kicks, learned how to punch with precision, and discovered how to use their arms to defend themselves safely.
Beyond the physical skills, the children also learned about the core values of Taekwondo, such as respect, self discipline, and perseverance. The instructor emphasised the importance of focus and listening carefully to commands, helping the children develop both coordination and confidence. Throughout the session, they cheered each other on, demonstrating great enthusiasm and teamwork.
By the end, the children were full of excitement, eager to share their experiences and show off their new moves. It was a fantastic introduction to the sport, leaving many inspired to continue exploring Taekwondo in the future!

Year 1 Visit to Windsor Castle
Thu 23 Jan 2025As part of our Geography Curriculum and the Year 1 English topic on 'The Queen's Handbag,' Year 1 went to visit Windsor Castle to complement what we had learned in school.
It was a wet but lovely day, and the children enjoyed exploring the Castle. We visited the rooms in the State Apartments, saw the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth in St George's Chapel and the wonderful doll's house that belonged to Queen Mary. What a wonderful day the children had, visiting Windsor Castle and learning about the British Monarchs.
Thank you to the parent carer helpers that joined us on the trip.

Year 2 visit to the Living Rainforest
Wed 15 Jan 2025The Year 2 children had an unforgettable adventure on their visit to the amazing rainforest! From the moment they stepped into the lush, green environment, they were captivated by the incredible sights and sounds. The children were thrilled to explore and learn about the diverse animals that call the rainforest home. They saw a sleepy sloth hanging from a tree, tiny tortoises near a pond, and fascinating stick insects camouflaged among the leaves. The vibrant birds on branches and the baby crocodile resting in a shady spot were particular highlights. This exciting experience served as the perfect hook for their English lessons, introducing them to the book The Amazing Rainforest. Back in class, they will use their vivid memories to practice retelling the story with their text map, building confidence and excitement before innovating it with their own rainforest adventures.
