International Day
Mon 20 May 2024All children and staff at Minet Infant and Nursery School took part in International Day on the 14th of May. The day was filled with learning about facts, customs and dances of different countries and continents. Thank you to parents/ carers that came into school to perform and share their culture with the children.
Children enjoyed taking part in all the different activities planned on the day and here are some of their comments: -
"We get to learn about different cultures. I learnt that India is in the continent of Asia which is the biggest continent.”
“I liked using the chopsticks. It was hard but lots of fun.”
“We tasted Greek yoghurt, it’s thicker than normal yoghurt because all the water is squeezed out.”
“I liked looking at everyone’s clothes in the fashion show.”
“I liked learning the games from Indonesia and l learnt that the biggest temple is 2000 years old.”
"International Day is all about the world and other countries. Austria is an amazing country because of the dances. I come from Afghanistan. I have been there."

Year 1 Botwell Library Visit
Fri 17 May 2024Our Year 1 children visited Botwell Library where Emma explained the rules of the library and how it works. Did you know you can now borrow up to 14 books! We spoke about our favourite characters and looked around the library.

Year 2 Fire Safety Workshops
Thu 16 May 2024Year 2 had fire safety workshops delivered by the London Fire Brigade today. They learnt how firefighters prepare and train what to do in an emergency. The children now know that they should always crawl in the event of a fire and touch the door handle with the back of their hand to see if it safe to exit a room. Thank you London Fire Brigade!

Scooter Safety Training
Thu 16 May 2024Children in Key Stage One completed scooter safety training sessions. The training sessions included:
- A safety check of children's scooters
- Safe scooter control games
- Pavement etiquette with pedestrians
- Identifying scootering hazards such as cars reversing from driveways
- Finding a safe place to cross the road and crossing with a scooter.
The children really enjoyed the sessions and developed some important skills to help them safely use their scooter.

International Day
Sun 12 May 2024Tuesday 14th May is International Day in school.
Here is what is happening:
- Each class will complete activities based on the country their class is named after.
- KS1 children will be presenting their learning to parents/ carers. The Year 2 presentations for parents/ carers will be at 8.50am and at 2.40pm for Year 1 parents/ carers.
- There will be assemblies for KS1 children about International Day.
- It will be a non-uniform day. Children and staff can come into school wearing clothes from their own culture.
- There will be dance workshops for all classes.
- Parents/ carers will be coming into school to talk to children about their own cultures to classes.
We are really looking forward to learning about many of the world's different cultures/

Mobile Farm Visit
Fri 10 May 2024What a lovely visit from the farm Nursery had this week as part of their Farm Topic Hook. Children saw lots of different animals, learnt about their offspring, held some guinea pigs, rabbits and chicks and even had a go at feeding some lambs and a donkey. Nursery children behaved fantastically around the animals and the nursery team were very proud!

Year 2 OPAL Playday
Fri 03 May 2024It was so wonderful to have so many parent/carers join us for our Year 2 OPAL Playday and experience the fun children can have even during a wet weather. Please do remember to bring waterproof clothing for your child to use it when it is raining. The children can also leave their waterproof gear in their classes.

Year 1 Parent Playday
Fri 26 Apr 2024Our Year 1 parents/carers hugely enjoyed their OPAL playday with their children today! We discussed the importance of play in all weather conditions, play as rights for children and how it benefits all areas of their learning and development. Thank you to all the parents that have attended and for the positive feedback about OPAL.
