Finally, stick the animals in the correct area according to the climate.

Science
In science this week we are thinking about how we change as we grow. Have a look at a baby picture of you and think about what’s different about you then and you now.

  • How have you changed?
  • Has your hair changed colour?
  • What can you do now that you didn’t know how to do before?
  • Is there anything that hasn’t changed?

Next, think about what your parents/carers can do that is different to what you can do. Can they cook by themselves? Is their skin lighter or darker? Has their hair changed colour?

Make a table with 3 columns: babies, children and adults and list the differences.

Go through this Science powerpoint ‘How do Humans change?’. Make and label a timeline with pictures you can find from magazines or use the pictures from this Science picture document.

Tuesday 5th January

Each day we are going to focus on a different skill in English. These skills will include reading and writing. Please complete the following activities each day:

Tuesday: Read Ronald the Rhino and answer the questions.

English Tuesday 5th January 2021 – Ronald the Rhino comprehension

Wednesday: New Year’s resolutions.

We are in a new year now 2021. Each year, most people make new year’s resolutions which are things they want to get better at over the whole year. For example, some people’s new year’s resolution will be to get better at a certain sport, or a certain hobby like running or painting. My new year’s resolution is to practice more dances from my dance class because I will be in a dance show soon. Think about what you might like to get better at and write it down. Remember to use ‘because’ in your sentence.

My new year’s resolution is _____________________ because ______________.

Then ask the people in your family what their resolutions are and write them down using sentences containing ‘because’.

Thursday: Description.    English Thursday 7th January 2021 – description

Here are some pictures of some settings in different stories. Can you write some adjectives about the picture and then use these adjectives in some sentences? For example, spooky, dark, bright, enormous, tiny. Think about how you would feel if you were there.

Sentence example: The castle is enormous. When it is dark, the castle will be spooky.

Please write 3 sentences about each setting.

Friday: Writing.

We have loved seeing you on zoom for phonics this week. Please can you write some sentences about your favourite part of home learning for this week. What did you enjoy the most? Why? What was so fun about it?

Example: This week we have been learning from home and it has been fun. My favourite part was seeing my teacher and friends on Zoom. It was so fun, because seeing them made me really happy. We did some writing and I enjoyed thinking of a new year’s resolution. I really enjoyed P.E. too, because I love gymnastics!

Monday 11th January

Monday 11th January

For this week’s science lesson, we are focusing on how we change as we grow. To begin with, go through the PowerPoint Science Week 2 and look at animals and their young. Think about the differences you can see. How do they change? Are they bigger? Have they learnt to do something new?

Once you have been through the PowerPoint, read the Life cycles information and create a life cycle of an animal of your choice from one of the groups.

In P.E. our new topic is gymnastics. In gymnastics the main elements are strength, balance and co-ordination so please follow this video for your second lesson this week. The lesson involves jumps, balances and rolls. Please make sure you have an adult helping you or you can leave the rolls until you have adult support and guidance. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r0nheZr44TA

If you would really like to keep fit, keep up with Joe Wicks on YouTube! He has live sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9am, but you can do them anytime.

Well done for your lists of animals from the Arctic and the Antarctic last week. We loved seeing them! This week’s Geography lesson is learning about animals that live in Africa. Go through the  Geography Powerpoint slides about African animals and see if you can guess which animals they are. Make a list of these animals. When you look at the pictures, see if you can see any adaptations they might have to live in Africa.

Adaptations are changes that have happened to the animal to help them. For example:

  • Are they tall to reach the leaves on the trees?
  • What colour are they?
  • Do they blend into their environment?

Can you think of an animal that might not be able to survive in this habitat?

Have a look at the fact files of the animals Geog animal fact files and create your own fact file on an animal that lives in Africa. It must include:

Title, picture of the animal, key facts and important information.

Tuesday 5th January

This week we are looking at animals that live in cold places. Look a the PowerPoints below:

Antarctic Animals

Arctic Animals

Now read this attachment for your task.  Can you make a list of animals that live in Antarctic and the Arctic? Geography task
