Year Two

An Inclusive School

It's an all inclusive, welcoming school. I've got three little boys who love it here and so do I.

Mr Eldaw

I am delighted with the progress that my daughters have made at Minet – you have nurtured them to achieve excellent progress in key learning areas such as reading and maths.

In Year 2, we encourage greater independence – academic, social and behavioural – as we guide the children through their final year in Key Stage 1. Towards the end of the year, we prepare them for their transition into Key Stage 2; the next chapter of the education.

We continue to teach daily sessions of Phonics, mathematics and literacy, with a focus on fluency in reading, writing and arithmetic.

The same afternoon subjects are taught as in Year 1 and these are covered through meaningful topic questions, such as ‘What makes London great?’, wherein the children understand the history of our capital city by embarking on a tour of the major sites. This immersive experience inspires the children’s learning and enables them to produce some excellent writing. Another topic taught is ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them!’ Part of this learning involves understanding habitats and the children create dioramas of specific habitats for their own fantastic beast – once they have created them and researched their needs!
