As part of their learning for the ‘Who Lives in Windsor Castle?’ topic, the Year 1 children had an amazing opportunity to experience Windsor Castle first hand and what an experience it was!
They were able to see Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, the State Apartments, real shields and armour and the beautiful St George’s Chapel. Laerta from Lavender said, ‘The dolls’ house was so good! I could see beds, cars, cupboards and even a garden!’
We were extremely lucky as our trip day was also the day for the Changing of the Guards. The children thought this was fantastic – the marching, the music and the soldiers’ uniforms. A kind police officer let the children through to be right at the front!
Sahabdeep from Dandelion said, ‘ I liked seeing the Changing of the Guards. The music was loud and the soldiers looked good. It was my favourite part of the day.’
Reception Literacy Morning
This month we held our Reception parent workshops with a focus on Phonics. This workshop helped parents and carers gain ideas, and receive support and guidance while supporting their child with their early reading skills.
The parents who attended thought it was a great opportunity to understand what their children have been learning.
Involvement of the children was fab and every child was given an opportunity.
Healthy Schools Bronze Award
This term we have renewed our Healthy School Award. We have reviewed a number of our policies to ensure we are providing the best opportunities for our children to understand how to be healthy in mind and body.
A Rights Respecting School
This term the staff and children at Minet Infant School are working hard to achieve our Recognition of Commitment which is the first step of the Rights Respecting School award. Each class has thoroughly enjoyed designing a class charter. In order to create the Classroom Charters each class picked rights which were most important to them. The children all understand their role in following the charters and teachers refer to them regularly when discussing behaviours appropriate for a rights respecting classroom.
The ‘Rights Respecting School Award’ (RRSA) will help our pupils to grow into confident, caring and responsible young citizens both in school and within the wider community.
Friends of Minet Infant School
had another successful book fair last month. We sold books cheaper than the back price. Some of the books were 60% off and most of the workbooks were 50% off. One of the reception/ nursery handwriting books was very famous and we sold 15 of those in an hour! We thank all the parents who participated in this event.
