A visit to the Mayor of Hillingdon
Our School Council spent an afternoon meeting our Hillingdon Borough Mayor and had an opportunity to see where our Mayor works and holds her council meetings. The children were very excited about going through the Mayor’s secret path, which only the Mayor uses. They also picked up some top tips on how to be effective councillors! We would like to thank the Mayor for meeting us and the School Council will be inviting her to come and visit all of us here at Minet.
We were delighted to be included in the SingUp song of the year video! Take a look…
Our Rights Respecting News
Our Rights Respecting steering group has been very busy this month! The Ambassadors are continuing to work towards making our woodland area more pleasant to use, so we went to a local garden centre to buy plants with our budget. Article number 29:
Education should teach children and young people to protect the environment.
With our wish list complete, hopefully the Woodland area will now be a place where children can enjoy Article Number 31,
‘Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities.’
Please ensure that we respect this area as we all have a joint responsibility to look after it for all our children to enjoy.
John Lewis Portrait Competition
Children from Art Club entered a John Lewis portrait competition of ‘Someone Special from the Community’. Everyone received a special certificate and John Lewis were so impressed, they chose four pieces of our Art work to display in the John Lewis store in Kingston from 16th July 2017. The children chosen were Shafeeya (Lily), Milad and Carmen (Dandelion) and Mayra (Primrose). Well Done to all our fantastic artists!
Science days at Minet
There was lots of awe and wonder as the children in Reception and Year 1 explored the scientific features of our natural world this month. Reception were finding out how materials react to water and what would make a good raincoat and in Year 1 they were learning about the science of our seasons. Here we can see children predicting how many drops of water a cloud can contain before the rain falls! The day also involved many other scientific discoveries as the children questioned the results of their experiments – the mark of a great scientist!
